Govt to rehabilitate 100 PHCs in Oyo by June 2021

Oyo to partner relevant bodies to promote healthy environment, employment opportunities

The Oyo State government is set to rehabilitate three Primary Health Centres (PHCs) in each of the thirty- three (33) local government areas of the State within the next six months.

The move is for more people to have access to Primary Health Care in their localities.

Dada Awoleye, chairman, Oyo State Primary Health Care Board, who disclosed this hinted that Seyi Makinde, Governor of the state has for a start, approved the rehabilitation of about 100 PHCs across the State within the next six months.

It will be recalled that Makinde had stated while presenting the 2021 budget proposal to the State Assembly, that his administration will give the Primary Health Centre in each of the 351 wards in the State a facelift within a short period of time.

Fielding questions on a radio programme Ibadan, Awoleye said “what we inherited is not good at all and the situation is not peculiar to Oyo State, it is a national problem. The Governor is committed to this course.

According to him, we have the fund and the plan is to refurbish 3 Primary Health Centres in each of the 33 local government areas of the State. This will change the narrative as more people will have access to Primary Health Care

The chairman decried the over-concentration on secondary Health Institutions but promised that the administration of Makinde will correct these anomalies.

Awoleye however expressed the commitment of the Seyi Makinde’s administration to this course adding that the people should hold the government accountable as it will not renege on its promise.
