A  US  Delta Airlines flight DL55 which emanated from Lagos and headed to Atlanta on Sunday, diverted to Dakar, Senegal after the crew suspected there were terrorists on board.

Although a Delta statement did not explain in detail what transpired after it landed safely in Dakar, it only said the flight diverted for ‘precautionary reasons’.

It added that “after a short stop, the flight resumed to the United States. The safety and security of our passengers and crew is our number one priority”.

But some persons on board the flight explained that they saw two men being handcuffed from the flight by flight marshals who had disguised as passengers.

It was gathered that another bag suspected to be containing explosives was discovered in the aircraft after all passengers were asked to disembark without their bags after they landed in Dakar.

“The pilot of the plane had suddenly switched off all TV screens and announced that the flight would make a stop on the way for security reasons, causing apprehension among passengers.

“We saw the men being led out of the plane in handcuffs. We learnt they were Malians and were probably not screened in Lagos. We eventually took off to Puerto Rico because of fuel endurance”, a passenger who was on board twitted.
