Richard Dobbs, author of No Ordinary Disruption and the keynote speaker at the BusinessDay CEO Forum, which took place today in Lagos, Nigeria, has said that Nigeria can fight corruption with technology.

“How do we disrupt corruption? Use technology. Use technology to make all payments. Track payments. Disrupt corruption by getting people out of the way. Automate,” Dobbs said.

Dobbs who is speaking at the #BusinessDayCEOforum – currently the most trending topic in Nigeria – said already the world is experiencing major technology disruptions starting with urbanisation in emerging countries such as Nigeria.

“Consuming class people is at 3 billion people and Nigeria is one of the biggest contributors. The British industrial revolution doubled the GDP in 150 years, the disruption happening currently will double the GDP in 15 years,” Dobbs said.

He also predicted that the next generation of mobile phones will have heart monitors and a device to take a blood sample.

“In the technology world, the doctors can seat anywhere in the world and talk to patients all over the world. Going forward, all houses as a standard building process will have solar on the roof, storage of energy, the future.

“We need to reset our intuition to to take into account the effect of global disruptive forces when we make predictions about the future, otherwise we will be making wrong decisions. We look forward to a time when emerging markets would be open source,” He said.
