Peaceful conduct but late start at Isheri-Idimu area

nigeria-election

At polling unit 029 at Gamu-Gasa area of Isheri-Idimu, Lagos State, accreditation which was supposed to start at 7 am did not start until 10 am as Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officers arrived late.

The four officials however came with four Card readers at about 9.15 am as scores of voters waited patiently for them.

Unlike some areas in Lagos, none of the card readers malfunctioned and the
officials too manned them professionally.

One thing that was a common with everyone there was that everybody appeared calm and patient to excercise their franchise until the INEC officials were ready for them.

And at about 1.30pm, they rounded up accreditation while the officils instructed them to file out on a single line.

Due to the nature of the voting area, which is very small, people could not file out on a single line as instructed by the official as some people were seen sitting on uncompleted pavement used to demarcate drainages around the.

One of the officials asked the elderly people to first come forward to cast their votes and then allow the younger ones to queue up.

However, voting commenced at about 2.24 pm while some party agents and police officers on duty observe the situation.

Businessday spoke to the first person to cast his vote, 60 year old Kasali Saliu on his perception about the whole situation since he came to the booth at about 8.30 am.

He said he was happy to vote adding that he is expecting that everything will go calmly in the federation as it is there.

Voting continues.
