Ministerial list: Buhari working independently to assemble cabinet – APC

Buhari-2

As the country awaits the ministerial list of President Muhammadu Buhari in September, his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) says the president is working independently to assemble the best hands as ministers in the next few weeks.

It was rumoured in some quarters that the president’s delay in assembling members of cabinet was due to wide consultation he needed to make.

The three months old government of APC has also received several bashing from various quarters over the delay in ministerial appointments, the delay according to critics, was affecting the pace at which the government was moving in implementing its campaign promises.

Speaking at the national secretariat of the party yesterday, John Odigie-Oyegun, APC national chairman, said the president had spent the last two months understanding the situation he took over from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led government.

Oyegun spoke when the Association of Northern Students visited him on the occasion of his 76th birthday and one year in office as the national chairman of APC.

“What some of us in the progressives movement that has now transformed into a governance in this country cannot accept is that the nation need to be as bad as it is today.

“Yes, the circumstances of last 15 years ago are different, the nature of economy is different, people have evolved but the basic fact remain the same and that is for any nation, for any government to have any legitimacy, its key emphasis and the whole justification for its existence must be the welfare of the people who have entrusted that party or that leader with the governance of their common affairs, that is the key thing.

“Fortunately, we have a blueprint which makes your welfare and everybody’s welfare the core of his attention. Yes, things have turned out to be worse in the economy than we expected when we were campaigning. Every known indicator of good conduct has been violated and our institutions have factually been destroyed, even to the extent of tampering with security institution,” he said.
