Lagos State government has expressed resolve to banish yellow buses popularly known as Danfo from Lagos streets. The state plans to approach the Nigerian stock exchange for funds to improve technology that will power improved and efficient mass transport in the state.

The disclosure was made by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, the governor of Lagos State at the 14th edition of the Centre for Leadership (CVL) Annual Lecture and International Leadership Symposium which held on Monday 6 February, 2016.

Themed ‘Living Well Together, Tomorrow: the challenge of Africa’s future cities’, the symposium drew stakeholders in urbanisation from the public and private sector.

While making a presentation, governor Ambode acknowledged the many challenges of urbanisation in a mega city such as Lagos. According to him, reducing such obstacles will be a gradual process and will take a lot of efforts.

Every solution, he said, must first consider the well-being of the people, whether what is being offered is really what they need. He disclosed that the state was investing massively in infrastructure and other forms of transportation that will improve the quality of life of the citizens. Efforts are being made to introduce BRT transport in every part of the state and phase out the yellow buses.
