Governing board of the Centenary City will today Friday meet with President Muhamadu Buhari’, in relation with the ongoing scandal that hit the existence of the city.
Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, office of the Secretary General to the Federation Mohammed Bukar, who made the disclosure yesterday, reiterated that no kobo was spent on the project from government’s coffers.
The Governing Board which is headed by Abdusalami Abubakar, sought and got approval for an audience with the President, Bukar told journalists after a briefing with the President.
“Mr President has granted an audience to the governing board and the management of the Centenary City Tomorrow at 12noon. The board is led by Gen Abdusalami Abubakar who is the Chairman governing board of Centenary City PLC and I know that they applied to come and see the President and he graciously accepted to listen to them . And there are to hope those involved in the management of the city would be able to give you information or full facts on the city”.
Emerging from the President’s office after leading other officials of Ministry, Department and Agencies under the Presidency to brief the President, Bukar who led six other permanent secretaries, said on the alleged waivers, only the affected agencies could confirm if waivers were granted to those running the activities of the city.
A former People’s Democratic Party’s Leader. Cairo Ojougboh, had jolted the public when alleged that former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Pius Anyim, had tricked former President Goodluck Jonathan in the construction of the Centenary City.
Ojougboh had exonerated Jonathan from the scandal, saying that if the ex-President had known what happened on the project, he would also not have gone ahead to do the ground-breaking ceremony of the city.
Ojougboh had further explained at a press briefing in Abuja that the land size of the proposed city, which is located along the Airport Road in Abuja, is equal to Maitama, Asokoro and Guzape Districts put together.
He had also alleged that the fraud involved in the project was about N1.2bn and that the Federal Government was also going to lose about $4b from the project.
Bukar further disclosed that at the meeting the President also gave an order that every public servant, be it civil servant or public officer, must be made to sit up as it is no longer business as usual.
” The President Left no one in doubt as to his total displeasure about stories he has been hearing about the civil service.
“He has given a very strong warning that change has come and every public servant must sit up, be he or she a civil or public servant a senior officer or low level office. So in that regard I think we are poised towards meeting up with the expectations of Me President as directed” he said .
