Following allegations of corruption against some of his principal aides, President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, to investigate all top government officials accused of corruption.
A terse statement by Presidential media aide , Garba Shehu late Sunday, said any official found culpable will be prosecuted.
The two-paragraph statement which was said President Buhari Will Wage A Relentless War Against Corruption read “The attention of the presidency has been drawn to a number of reports in the media, in which various accusations of corruption have been levelled against some top officials in the administration.
“In that regard, President Buhari has instructed the Attorney General of the Federation to investigate the involvement of any top government official accused of any wrongdoing. If any of them are liable, they will not escape prosecution.”
Shehu’s response is coming on the heels of allegations of corruption against top government officials most recent being the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal.
Others include the Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari; and the acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu.
