After two days of deliberations on who to pick as running mate to Muhammadu Buhari, presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the leadership of the party says it will officially announce its choice today.
John Odigie-Oyegun, chairman of the party, disclosed this Tuesday while addressing journalists at the national secretariat of the party in Abuja.
“I have a feeling that he (Muhammadu Buhari) will speak to you tomorrow (today) on who his running mate will be. The party has consulted with the candidate and we have reached some agreement and he will address you tomorrow (today),” Odigie-Oyegun said.
Those being considered for the vice president slot are Governors Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers, Babatunde Fashola of Lagos, Adams Oshiomhole of Edo and Yemi Osinbajo, a former attorney-general and Lagos State commissioner for justice.
Others are Kayode Fayemi, former Ekiti governor; Olagunsoye Oyinlola, former governor of Osun State and Adeniyi Adebayo, former governor of Ekiti State.
A seven-member committee headed by Tony Momoh was set up to prune the number of aspirants. It has representatives from each zone of the country. They include Bisi Akande (South-West); Chris Ngige (South-East); Danjuma Goje (North-East); Audu Ogbe (North-Central), Sam Jaja (South-South) and Governor Yari Abubakar (North-West).
