The ANOH Gas Processing Plant has commenced commercial operations and is ramping up production towards its full processing capacity of 300 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (MMscfd), marking a significant milestone in Nigeria’s drive to deepen domestic gas utilisation and strengthen energy security.

James Makinde, managing director of ANOH Gas Processing Company (AGPC), disclosed this during a courtesy visit by the company’s senior management team to Olu Verheijen, special adviser to the president on energy.

According to Makinde, the facility, located in Imo State, is currently processing about 150 MMscfd of wet gas during its initial stabilisation phase following its successful commissioning and transition into commercial operations.

“The successful start-up and continued ramp-up of the ANOH Gas Processing Plant represent a significant milestone, not only for AGPC but also for Nigeria’s aspiration to unlock its vast gas resources for industrialisation, power generation and economic development,” Makinde said.

The ANOH Gas Processing Plant was developed by AGPC, a 50:50 incorporated joint venture between Seplat Energy Plc and the Nigerian Gas Infrastructure Company Limited (NGIC), a subsidiary of Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited.

Designed to process approximately 300 MMscfd of wet gas from the ANOH Field in Oil Mining Lease (OML) 53, the plant is expected to play a critical role in expanding gas supply to both domestic industries and export markets.

Makinde noted that the facility has continued to demonstrate stable, safe and reliable operations since commissioning, with a clear roadmap to achieve its full design capacity.

The plant is already supplying processed gas to Indorama Petrochemical Plant in Rivers State, supporting industrial activities and feedstock requirements. Additional gas volumes are transported through the Obiafu-Obrikom-Oben (OB3) gas pipeline for delivery to Nigeria LNG (NLNG), strengthening the country’s integrated gas value chain.

The engagement with the Presidency focused on the operational performance of the facility, its contribution to the domestic gas market and its role in advancing the Federal Government’s Decade of Gas initiative and broader energy transition objectives.

Verheijen commended AGPC for the successful delivery and operation of the project, describing the ANOH Gas Processing Plant as a strategic national asset capable of supporting economic diversification, industrial growth and improved energy security.

She reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for investments that expand gas infrastructure, deepen domestic gas utilisation and enhance Nigeria’s competitiveness in the global energy market.

The ANOH facility is also expected to strengthen Nigeria’s gas transmission network through its connection to the OB3 pipeline system, enabling wider distribution of processed gas to power generation companies and industrial customers across the country.

AGPC said it remains committed to operational excellence, regulatory compliance, Nigerian content development and sustainable stakeholder engagement as it continues the plant’s production ramp-up.

The company added that the project is strategically positioned to support Nigeria’s ambition of using its abundant natural gas resources to drive industrialisation, improve energy access and foster long-term economic development.
