The Lagos State government has fixed dates for this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), commonly known as the junior WAEC, with the exercise scheduled to hold from Monday, June 29 to Monday, July 6, 2026.

This is made known in a statement issued on Thursday by the Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education through the Lagos State Examinations Board (LASEB).

Adebayo Orunsolu, registrar of the board, described the examination as a critical checkpoint for students transitioning from junior to senior secondary school in both public and approved private institutions across the state.

He called on parents, guardians and school administrators to take note of the timetable and comply with all guidelines set by the board, stressing that schools must ensure eligible candidates are adequately prepared and meet all requirements ahead of the examinations.

Orunsolu said arrangements for the examination had been finalised, with the board assuring stakeholders of a smooth, transparent and credible process.

He also reiterated the state government’s zero-tolerance stance on examination malpractice, warning that any form of misconduct or disruption during the exercise would attract sanctions under existing regulations.

“The BECE determines candidates’ eligibility for placement into senior secondary schools, making strict adherence to the Board’s guidelines critical for students hoping to advance smoothly within Lagos’ education system,” he said.

Besides, he encouraged students and schools to ensure they are adequately prepared, emphasising that schools are expected to ensure that all eligible candidates are fully ready and meet examination requirements.

Orunsolu guaranteed stakeholders that all administrative and logistical arrangements have been concluded to guarantee a smooth, transparent and credible examination process across the state.
