EndSARS Protests: President Buhari hosts crucial meeting with former Nigerian leaders

Obasanjo makes U-turn, says he didn’t endorse Buhari

As Nigerians continue to react to President Muhammadu Buhari’s speech on the ongoing EndSARS protests, the President organized a crucial virtual meeting with former Nigerian leaders.

The meeting started at 09:00 GMT with President Buhari presiding from the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Former leaders participating virtually from their homes include Yakubu Gowon, Olusegun Obasanjo, Abdulsalami Abubakar, Goodluck Jonathan, and Ernest Shonekan.

Those physically present at the Council Chambers with the President include Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Secretary to Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, and Chief of Staff to the President, Professor Ibrahim Gambari, as well as the National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno.

Others include the Chief of Defence Staff, Gabriel Olanisakin, Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, Director General, Department of State Services, Yusuf Bichi, and Director-General, National Intelligence Agency, Ahmed Rufai.

Presidential Villa sources said the meeting might not be unconnected with the ongoing crises that provoked the destruction of public properties

The source said President Buhari has been consulting widely since the protests to find a solution to the present security challenges, across the country.

The President had before his nationwide broadcast on Thursday night, presided over the National Security Council at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, with top security officials making their presentations on how to deal with the issues
