EndSARS: NAFDAC office looted with drugs and chemicals carted away

NAFDAC bans production of sachet alcohol, small bottles below 200ml

Unquantified quantity of drugs and chemicals which are potentially for human consumption were carted away by hoodlums from the office of National Agency for food Drug Administration (NAFDAC) in Kaduna, Kaduna State.

The fear is that Innocent people may buy some of these drugs which might result in some health complications. while some of the hoodlums might also on their own take some of the drugs and begin to behave inappropriately in society.

According to one of the top officers in the agency, Nantim Mullah Dadi who spoke with BusinessDay, he said that everything that was in the warehouse of the agency which housed regulated drugs were removed all in the name of looking for where COVID19 palliatives are kept.

“They crashed into our office around 6pm on Saturday and headed to our warehouse where regulated products such as drugs, foods, chemicals, packaged water and medica devices are kept and took away everything” he said

The products he stated have the potentials of harming if they are sold to people while the chemical have the potential to explode if they are not properly handled and therefore appealed to those looters to return the drugs and chemicals.

The main office of the agency, he said, was also not spared as every single thing they could find they took. He lamented that by the time they would resume office this Monday, they would not have anything to work with.

“Our furniture, files and saves were removed. I only have my phone with one. It is very sad”, he said

Meanwhile the Kaduna State Government impose curfew on some parts of the state to stem the spate of looting by criminal under the guise of protesting EndSARS

It imposed a 24-hour curfew in two local government areas after hoodlums on Saturday broke into a property and carted away COVID-19 food palliatives.

The property is located at Tanko Tete Street off, Gwari Avenue, Barnawa, Kaduna State.

Witnesses said materials removed from the property include sugar, noodles, and spaghetti.

The government declared a curfew in parts of Chikun and Kaduna South LGAs to curb further looting.

A statement issued by the Commissioner Homes Affairs and Internal Security, Samuel Aruwan, listed the affected areas to include Barnawa, Kakuri, and Television in Kaduna South Local Government Area.

Other areas are Maraban Rido, Sabon Tasha, Narayi, and Ungwan Romi of Chikun Local Government Area.

“The Kaduna State Government has declared 24-hour curfew in some communities in Kaduna South and Chikun Local Government areas, effective immediately,” the statement by Aruwan said.

“Security agencies have been directed to arrest and prosecute any found violating the curfew and those responsible for breakdown of law and order. Security agencies have further been directed to effect the arrest and prosecution of anyone found looting and destroying properties.
