#EndSARS: Minister directs hospitals not to reject casualties over payment

Minister laments continuous violation of COVID-19 protocols at Airports, others

Following the civic unrest due to attacks on EndSARS protesters and need for emergency medical services, the minister of health, Osagie Ehanire, has directed Federal Tertiary Hospitals not to reject casualties arriving with evocative injuries on account of inability to pay for service.

The minister said all of such persons are to receive treatment without delay. He directed all Chief Executive Officers of all Federal Tertiary Hospitals to comply with the directive immediately.

This was contained in a statement signed by Abdulaziz Abdullahi, Permanent Secretary, ministry of health on Thursday.

“This Administration places priority on the health and wellbeing of citizens and residents and is committed to assuring that lives are not lost needlessly”, the statement read.

The Permanent Secretary however reminded all persons to still adhere under all conditions to non-pharmaceutical measures when outdoors, especially the use of face masks and hand sanitizers, as well as social distancing, in order to preserve the gains made in stemming community transmission of COVID-19 in Nigeria.

He reiterated that the continuation of routine service delivery is imperative, using a high index of suspicion for COVID-19, to assure staff protection from infection, considering the ease of transmission.
