#ENDSARS: IGP visits Sanwo-Olu

Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Tuesday, received the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Muhammed Adamu, at the State House, Marina, on a sympathy visit to Lagos following the destruction that trailed the ENDSARS protest in the state.

Lagos was the epicentre of the “ENDSARS protest”, which led to large-scale destruction of public and private assets. Six police officers were lynched in Lagos, 36 critically injured, while 46 police stations were torched.

Speaking while hosting the IGP, Sanwo-Olu commiserated with the police chief over the mob attacks on police personnel and torching of their stations. Despite the violence visited on the police formations by hoodlums who hijacked the protest, the governor commended the officers for exercising restraint in the face of the attacks.

Sanwo-Olu intimated the IGP on the move by the state government to rebuild the razed police stations and offer scholarship awards to the children of the officers killed in the violence.

Speaking, Adamu said he observed that the morale of some officers had been dampened in the light of the violence, noting that his visit would encourage them to give their all in protecting the lives and properties of the citizens.

Adamu, who visited some of the destroyed police assets, said the scale of the destruction witnessed in Lagos and around the country called for the adoption of standard protocols for public protests whenever they wanted to express their grievances against the system. He also assured that the police were tracking those who hijacked the protest and carried out the destruction.
