Rugby School Group is has concluded plans to announce the opening of Rugby School Nigeria on a brand new campus in the heart of Lagos, one of Africa’s most dynamic cities.
According to information made available by the institution on its LinkedIn handle, “Year 12 day places are now available for A-level studies beginning in September 2025. Years 7 to 13 will open in 2026 for day and boarding students aged 11 to 18.”
Rugby School Nigeria will offer the full Rugby School experience and aims to become one of West Africa’s leading day and boarding schools.
Neil Hampton, the chief executive officer at Rugby School Nigeria said, “Rugby School Nigeria is the latest school to join the Rugby School Group. Rugby School has had a tradition of welcoming Nigerian students going back many years.”
Nick Bacon, the chairman of governors at Rogby School Group described the development as a historic moment for Rugby School. “We go back to 1567 and ever since we have led and innovated. Some notable landmarks include the inception of the game Rugby Football on our playing fields in 1823,” Bacon stated.
Some other remarkable moments of the Rugby Group he cited include Dr Arnold’s 19th century education reforms which was inspired by his visits to Rugby School, Pierre de Coubertin’s revival of the Olympic Games; the inception of the Arnold Foundation for Rugby School in 2003, the first of its kind in the U.K. to offer fully funded boarding places to an independent school. Jade the deputy head girl of the school commenting on the new development said; “Now that Rugby School is moving to Nigeria, particularly for Sixth Form right now, I definitely would have stayed there, because it’s the same quality of education. I think it’s fantastic that Rugby School is opening in Nigeria.”
According to the group, Rugby School Nigeria will be the Rugby School Group’s third international sister school.
Located within the heart of the world-class development of Eko Atlantic in Lagos, Rugby School Nigeria will be a day and boarding school for students aged 11 to 18.
The school will start in September 2025, initially meeting demand for a dynamic Sixth Form programme for day girls and boys from age of 16. The senior school for day and boarding students from the age of 11 will open in September 2026.
The school aims to synthesise the renowned British education system with rich, diverse, Nigerian and African culture, creating a welcoming and transformative learning environment for students.
