The union noted that the IPPIS was a diversionary strategy and deliberate ploy by the federal government of Nigeria to emasculate ASUU and abandon all agreements freely entered into with the union, including the renegotiation of the ASUU-FGN 2009 agreement.
While aligning with the national leadership of the union on IPPIS, it, however, said: “no to the deployment of IPPIS in its present state”.
The union alleged that the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) was driven primarily by selfish interests and motivations rather than the much-vaunted claims about stemming the tide of corruption.
“It is imperative for us to restate our position as a responsible union committed to the defence of education and the rights of the working class in Nigeria.
“Our goal has always been to safeguard the future of this country and to confront the mindless resolve of the ruling class to plunder both our human and natural resources for personal gain.
“ASUU-UNIBEN remains an integral and unwavering party to the collective decision of the union to resist the forceful implementation of IPPIS by the office of the Accountant-General of the Federation.
“It is in gross violation of the autonomy of Nigerian Federal Universities as enshrined in the universities miscellaneous provisions amendment Act 2003 (universities autonomy Act No. 1, 2007 and fails to accommodate the peculiarities of the Nigerian university system,” the statement added.
The union, however, alleged that IPPIS is run by Infiniti Systems Limited, a private consultancy firm that the federal government pays hundreds of millions of naira to do a job for which persons have been employed and being paid salaries by the federal ministry of finance and the office of the Accountant- General of the Federation.
It urged the office of the Accountant- General of the Federation to disclose how much it pays at the expense of Nigerian workers to Infiniti Systems Limited as well as the identity of the owner (s) of the firm.
