The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the rights, wellbeing, and future of Nigerian children through inclusive education and expanded opportunities for learning and development.
Tunji Alausa, Minister of Education, gave the assurance during the 2026 Children’s Day celebration held at the Federal Ministry of Education headquarters in Abuja, where children from different schools and backgrounds across the country were hosted in a symbolic engagement programme.
The event also featured Dera Osadebe, young disability advocate and actress, whose advocacy for children living with disabilities and autism was commended by the minister.
In a statement signed by Ikharo Attah, Special Adviser on Media and Communications to the Minister, on Wednesday, Alausa described Children’s Day as a reminder of the collective responsibility to invest in the future of Nigerian children through quality education, protection, and equal opportunities.
“Today is about celebrating the strength, creativity, and limitless potential of our children. Every Nigerian child deserves to feel seen, heard, encouraged, and supported to achieve their dreams regardless of background or circumstance,” the minister said.
He commended Dera Osadebe for promoting awareness and inclusion for children with disabilities, noting that her efforts continue to inspire conversations around empathy and equal opportunity.
“Dera’s courage and passion reflect the resilience and brilliance that exist in millions of Nigerian children. Her voice continues to inspire important conversations around inclusion, empathy, and equal opportunity for every child,” he added.
According to the minister, the Federal Government remains focused on policies that support child development and inclusive education in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He said the administration is prioritising youth empowerment, improved access to quality education, and the creation of safe and supportive learning environments for children across the country.
Alausa encouraged Nigerian children to remain confident in their abilities and continue developing their talents despite existing challenges.
“Children are at the heart of our nation’s future, and we must continue to create opportunities that allow them to learn, grow, and succeed,” he stated.
The ministry reiterated its commitment to advancing programmes and policies aimed at safeguarding the rights of every Nigerian child while promoting equal opportunities and a brighter future for children nationwide.
