As part of its commitment to advancing education and in celebration of the 2025 Children’s Day, Denam Charity Foundation, has launched its flagship education initiative, ProjectLearn1.0, by awarding scholarships worth N5 million to 30 SS1 students of Government Day Secondary School, Dutse Alhaji, in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
The scholarship covers two years of tuition and will fully fund the students’ West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) fees. The initiative, launched as part of the foundation’s first education project, ProjectLearn1.0 was unveiled at an award ceremony held at the school on Monday.
The 30 beneficiaries, from Senior Secondary School (SS1 and SS2) classes, were selected based on academic merit following a rigorous screening process. In addition to the scholarship awards, 20 other students received consolation prizes in recognition of their efforts.
Linus Igwemezie, Chairman of the Denam Group, while speaking at the event, emphasized that the initiative aligns with the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and reflects its commitment to empowering young Nigerians through education.
“This is our first program. We’re taking small but meaningful steps. The size of the problem is huge, but we’re committed to solving it one step at a time. This program cost us about N5 million, but we are prepared to do more. As the company grows, we intend to expand our impact,” Igwemezie said.
He noted that the scholarship is not just financial support but a call to action for the students to pursue excellence and stay focused on their academic goals.
“Education is the most transformative force for personal development. It opens doors and shields you from the risks of a failed future. Lack of education is strongly linked to poverty and, in many cases, criminal behaviour. We are here to change that narrative,”
The Denam Group, through its property development arm Denam Properties funded the initiative, pledging to expand the scholarship program to more schools within the FCT.
“We knew these challenges before coming here. I came from America, and as they say, if you can’t stand the heat, don’t go to the kitchen. We are here to build, to empower, and to give back,”
Balogun Emmanuel, Principal of Government Day Secondary School, Dutse Alhaji, expressed gratitude to the foundation, describing the gesture as a “seed sown into eternity.”
“I’ve always maintained that anyone who touches God’s heritage touches God for good. What you have done today is not an act of charity alone; it is a seed sown into eternity.
“You have done well to God’s heritage. You have done it for the Almighty Himself. And I say this from the depth of my heart to everyone here: when generations after you continue to enjoy blessings, favour, and greatness, they will trace it back to this seed you have planted,”
The Denam Charity Foundation said it will closely monitor the academic performance of the beneficiaries and work towards expanding the program to reach even more deserving students in the near future.
