Coronavirus death toll reaches 800, exceeding SAR’s

Coronaviruses

The Death toll from Coronavirus, which originated from China and is spreading across the globe, has reached 800, higher than the 774 people killed by the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) that ravaged the country in 2013.

The latest data came after the WHO said the last four days had seen “some stabilising” in Hubei, but warned the figures can still “shoot up”.

Almost 37,200 people in China have now been infected by the virus, believed to have emerged late last year in Hubei’s capital Wuhan, where residents are struggling to get daily supplies.

The epidemic has prompted the government to lock down whole cities as anger mounts over its handling of the crisis — especially after a whistleblowing doctor fell victim to the virus

Three people have caught the disease in the United Kingdom as WHO said it is concerned that the epidemic could spread to countries with weak health facilities.

Meanwhile, Li Wenliang, the 34-year-old medical doctor that discovered the deadly virus, died after contacting it from a patient..

He had been detained by the Chinese police for posting on a private chat about the dangers of the virus.
