Exotix named Best Equity Bank at Global Finance Awards 2015

‘It is time for Nigerians to start making value calls in their own country’

Exotix Partners has been awarded the Best Equity Bank in Africa at the annual Global Finance Awards 2015, in recognition of the firm’s growing presence and achievements in the region. The Awards name the world’s best investment banks based on performance during 2014.

One of the fastest growing equity franchises in the market, Exotix provides clients with active coverage of 13 local stock markets in sub-Saharan Africa, in addition to enabling direct market access for funds and other investors from around the world.

Ali Khalpey, Exotix’s global head of equities, said the frontier markets boutique was delighted to win the award. “We are flattered that in our first full year of the expanded Exotix Partners platform, the investment community has recognised our contribution,” he said.

The award comes after Exotix Partners became a full member of the Nigerian Stock Exchange in 2014 and partnered Equity Group in East Africa in August 2014.
Exotix has invested heavily in its equities business over the past year, making a series of senior hires including Hasnain Malik as head of frontier markets strategy. The firm will continue to invest throughout 2015, which will underpin plans to expand coverage into additional markets.

Kato Mukuru, Exotix’s head of equity research, signalled the start of Exotix’s frontier Asia research expansion with a major report on the Pakistan banks sector and analyst Vahaj Ahmed joined the Asia research team last month to cover the industrials sector.

Khalpey said: “We aim to live up to our clients’ expectations in 2015 as the leading Frontier ‎Markets boutique.”

Exotix’s trading capability now covers more than 26 Frontier Equity Markets including key African markets such as Nigeria, Kenya and Morocco.

The Global Finance Awards are presented by Global Finance magazine. Winners are judged by industry experts based on a series of criteria including market share, number and size of deals, service and advice, structuring capabilities, distribution network and efforts to address market conditions.

Exotix Partners is a frontier markets boutique with global capability and expertise in fast-growing emerging, frontier and illiquid markets.
