Bankers converge in Lagos for WCBI 2017

…Chart ways forward for the future of banking.

A delegation of the world banking community are currently converging on Lagos to chart a way forward for the future of the banking industry and the financial institutions at the 22nd World Conference of Banking Institutes (WCBI) 2017, with the theme “Re-Thinking the future of banking and finance, and live long learning”, to proffer solutions to the emerging challenges concerning the functioning of Banking and Finance Institutes and their role in effectively supporting the Financial Sector’s Performance and Profitability.

In his opening address to the delegates, Segun Ajibola, President/Chairman of Council, Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), said the purpose of the conference is to rethink the future and chart a way forward for the banking and finance industry in Nigeria, and the world at large.

According to him, “The changing dynamics in the banking and finance industry in today’s world necessitate the re-thinking of the future of the industry for live long learning”.

The WCBI as a biennial global forum of bankers brings together top executives and professionals from the financial services industry and other stakeholders engaged in banking operation, education and training, to deliberate and take holistic approach the solving the challenges in the sector.

Speaking further on the benefits of hosting the conference in Lagos, Ajibola opined that Lagos represents Nigeria, therefore it is in a better position to host a delegation of world bankers. “We are celebrating Lagos at 50, a state, which is the melting pot for all Nigerians, a victory for Lagos, I can say, is a victory for all Nigerians,” he said.

The conference, which is fully supported by the Lagos State government as one of the flagship events unmark for the Lagos at 50 celebration, as a way of financial tourism in to Lagos.

The Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) was unanimously endorsed to organize the 22nd edition of the biennial Conference in Lagos on 7 April 2015, in Seoul, South Korea. The WCBI serves as a platform for the banking institutes to strategically appraise the achievements and challenges faced in the banking industry globally and effectively enhance the financial sector’s performance.

CIBN’s hosting of WCBI 2017 in Nigeria is expected to promote innovative talent management strategies for the financial services, encourage strategic learning and cross fertilization of ideas, and networking. The conference will also add value to promote investment and economic growth especially in the financial services industry, enrich access to information, knowledge experience and expertise of professionals, and provide unique platform for bilateral relations.
