Coronavirus: Ebonyi to Profile Chinese Nationals in State

Ebonyi State has ordered immediate profiling of all Chinese nationals in the State as part of measures to prevent the spread of Coronavirus, the government said.

Governor David Umahi gave the directive during a meeting with government officials and community leaders in the State on the possible means of averting the looming danger associated with the virus from the residents of the State.

The State Government will meet with Chinese Nationals in State by Wednesday, 12th February, 2020 in respect to the Coronavirus outbreak.

Governor Umahi said that all the traditional rulers and other others stakeholders should move into their areas and profile the Chinese, adding that any one returning from China, should subject his or herself for medical extermination, and will not work until after two weeks of his arrival.

He further called for aggressive sensitization on the virus and lassa fever disease in the 140 autonomous communities of the State three times in the month of February and March.

Umahi further charged the Secretary to the State Government, Kenneth Ugbala, team lead, the State Attorney General, Cletus Ofoke, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Donor Agency to ensure full implementation of the directive.

“That LGAs Chairmen, DC Coordinators, Traditional Rulers, Councilors and Town Union Presidents are to profile and provide a comprehensive data of all the Chinese people residing in their locality to Ebonyi State Government on or before Wednesday as the State Government will meet with all Chinese nationals in the State on Wednesday, February 12, 2020.

He directed that all returning Chinese must submit to medical examination and not to be allowed to work until after 14 days from their arrival date to ensure that they are safe from the communicable disease.

He further directed that a major campaign and awareness creation for the communicable disease across the 140 Autonomous Communities in Ebonyi State will take place thrice in the month of February and March, and twice subsequently.

He added that the campaign would involve all the LGA Chairmen, DCs Coordinators, Town Union Presidents, Media, Councilors, Security, Health Workers and Traditional Rulers.

“The Ministry of Health, Ministry of Grants and Donor Agencies should immediately liaise with the health officers at the Local Government Areas and Development Centres to increase the awareness on Lassa Fever,” he directed.
