Faith Olabisi, Unilorin undergrad becomes chartered accountant at 18

Faith Olabisi, an 18 year-old student of the Department of Accounting at the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has, in a uncommon display of intellectual brilliance, become a chartered accountant as an undergraduate.

Olabisi is one of the several candidates who were successful in the November 2024 professional examinations of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).

Speaking with UNILORIN Bulletin, Olabisi said that it had always been her dream to become a chartered accountant as soon as possible.

Moreover, she applauded the support of her lecturers and mother who provided her with the necessary motivation needed to attain the feat at her age.

Segun Abogun, the acting head of the Department of Accounting, speaking about the rare feat achieved by Olabisi, said that he was very impressed with what he called “Olabisi’s outstanding achievement”.

“Olabisi is one of the several students of the department that passed the ICAN professional examinations last year,” he explained.

Abogun encouraged Olabisi and her colleagues to continue to serve as role models to others for the department to produce more chartered accountants among them even before their graduation from the university.

Wahab Egbewole, the vice-chancellor in his response to the awesome development expressed delight with the laudable achievement of Olabisi.

Kunle Akogun, the director of corporate affairs, office of the vice- chancellor, in a statement, the VC said that he was not surprised with the performance of Olabisi, said that the university had always produced record-breaking professionals among its students, staff, and alumni.

Egbewole, who is also the secretary-general of the Association of West African Universities (AWAU), elucidated that performances such as that of Olabisi and the persistent peace within the university that has made UNILORIN the most sought-after tertiary institution in Nigeria.

He commended Olabisi for making herself, family, the university community, and womanhood proud and urged her to continue to give her best to her studies and to remain a shining role-model not only in learning but also in character.

Moreover, Egbewole admonished other students of the University of Ilorin to emulate Olabisi in order for them to also succeed in their academic and professional endeavours.
