NCDMB pipe mill project to commence soon

NCDMB pipe mill project to commence soon

As part of its mandate to increase local content in the country’s oil and gas sector, the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) has concluded plans for the construction of a pipe mill.

The pipe mill project which would be the first of its kind in Nigeria would save the country millions of dollars in foreign exchange, create jobs and accelerate development in the oil and gas sector.

Executive secretary of NCDMB, Ernest Nwapa, told the Senate Committee on Petroleum (upstream) in Yenagoa, that already industry operators including Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC) were keying into the project.

The Senate committee led by the chairman, Paulker Emmanuel, representing Bayelsa Central Senatorial District, was in the state to inspect NCDMB projects as part of its oversight functions.

Nwapa explained that the project site at Polaku in Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State has been cleared and SPDC was willing to build a $45 million jetty to enhance the operations of the pipe mill.

He expressed belief that the establishment of the pipe mill would support the real oil and gas sector and that once the project recorded progress, others would follow suit.
