Chime pledges to revive Enugu moribund industries

Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State says he will do every thing possible to revive all the moribund industries in the state.

Chime, who announced this in an address to mark the Enugu State Special Day at the just concluded Enugu International Trade Fair, said the state has signed agreement with a Vietnamese company for the reactivation of Sunrise Flour Mills.

Chime, who was represented at the occasion by Jude Akubilo, commissioner for commerce and industry, explained that the state government had also granted a certificate of occupancy to Beverages Manufacturing Company to commence production at Nsude in Udi Local Government Area of the state.

According to him, Enugu government has began talks with some foreign experts in coal processing on the possibilities of re-activating the abandoned coal industry in Enugu and its utilisation to generate and augment power supply in the state.

He said that government would not relent in the provision of conducive environment for investors in the state.

The commissioner emphasised that the government was able to attract a good number of investors to the state through its aggressive infrastructure development in parts of the state in addition to improved security of lives and property of residents of the state.

“Enugu has become one of the fastest growing economies in Nigeria and a destination of choice for both foreign and local investors”, he added.

Earlier in his speech, Theo Okonkwo, president, Enugu Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (ECCIMA), expressed appreciation for the state government’s giant strides in infrastructure development and urban renewal which he described as a boost to the activities of the chamber.

Okonkwo said that ECCIMA is prepared to partner with all stakeholders for the improvement on the operations of the organisation.
