In addition to Air Peace, Union Bank and teacher associations, Honda Automobile is the latest to join in the sponsorship of the annual Maltina Teacher of the Year Award organised by Nigerian Breweries under the Felix Oheiwerei Foundation.

Honda is donating an HR-V car valued at N41.5 million to be won by the first winner of the competition. Other sponsors are also playing vital roles in the success of the 11 year of programme.

Honda is keying into the CSR initiative on the understanding that education is the foundation of economic growth and that teachers are integral part of education value chain says Daisuke Mita, Managing Director, Honda Automobile Western Africa Limited, during the flag-off of the 12th edition of the Maltina Teacher of the Year Competition in Lagos recently.

The competition is a nationwide initiative aimed at identifying, recognising and rewarding outstanding secondary school teachers for their invaluable contributions to shaping the nation’s future.

Entries for the 12th edition of the competition started June 3, 2026 to August 7, 2026.

Uzodinma Odenigbo, Public Relations Officer, NB-Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund, disclosed that the overall winner for the 2026 edition would receive a cash prize of N10 million , including the Honda HR-V, a year’s supply of Maltina, and a capacity development training opportunity overseas. In addition, the winner’s school would receive an infrastructure project valued at N30 million .

“The first runner-up will receive a total sum of N5,000,000.00 and a trophy, while the second runner-up will receive a total of N3,000,000 and a trophy. All state champions will be rewarded with recognition plaques and a cash prize of N1,000,000 each,” Odenigbo added.
