Nigerian Breweries stakes N2.75m on Golden Pen Award

The Nigerian Breweries Plc has said set aside a total of N2.75m for journalists who emerge winners of the 2015 edition of its Golden Pen Award.

This year’s award which will focus on education, youth empowerment and talent development, is also a corporate social responsibility of the company in promoting professionalism and objective reporting of events in corporate Nigeria.

Journalists from various newspaper organizations are therefore expected to submit entries of stories and photographs published in 2014 in Nigerian newspapers as the call for entries will close on Friday, September 21, 2015.

The reports and photographs will be analyzed for its originality, news values, use of resources, credibility and factuality. Other interest would include info-graphics, layout/headlines, clarity and social responsibility.

Speaking during the announcement of the award in Lagos, Kufre Ekanem, Corporate Affairs Adviser, Nigerian Breweries said a shortlist of the top ten entries will be made and winners will be named and rewarded at the award ceremony.

He disclosed that N1m will go to the Golden pen reporter of the year, N500,000 will be given to reporter of the year and N300,000 to the pen photojournalist of the year.

The first runner up for the reporter of the year will be given N300,000, second runner up will be rewarded N300,000 while the first runner up for photojournalist of the year will have N250,000 and N200,000 for the second runner up.

Ekanem also revealed that the jury will be headed by Yemi Ogunbiyi, a tested and trusted professional media manager who has helped to select winners in the past six editions.

“Other members of the jury include Ralph Akinfeleye, a renowned professor of Mass Communication, Nkechi Ali-Balogun, a former chairman of Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, NIPR and Gbenga Adefaye, former President, Nigerian Guild of Editors,” he added.
