Mirth Farms has made history in Nigeria’s livestock industry with the successful introduction of the first Nelore breed in the country through advanced embryo transfer technology, in collaboration with Silagreen Genetics Nigeria.

The remarkable achievement marks a major breakthrough in cattle breeding and livestock improvement, positioning Nigeria among the emerging African nations embracing world-class animal genetics and reproductive innovation.

The Nelore breed, widely recognized across Brazil and other tropical regions, is celebrated for its exceptional adaptability to hot climates, disease resistance, fertility, and outstanding beef production qualities. Agricultural experts believe the introduction of the breed into Nigeria could significantly improve the quality and productivity of local cattle herds.

According to the director; Mr Muyiwa Hassan, the project was driven by a vision to modernize livestock farming in Nigeria and provide farmers with access to superior cattle genetics capable of thriving under local environmental conditions.

The successful birth was made possible through premium embryo transfer services provided by Silagreen Genetics Nigeria, a company specializing in high-quality bovine genetics and advanced reproductive technologies. The embryos used in the process were carefully selected from elite Nelore bloodlines to ensure excellent genetic performance and adaptability.

Embryo transfer technology allows genetically superior calves to be produced from carefully selected donor cattle, enabling faster herd improvement and reducing the challenges associated with importing live animals. Industry experts say the technique is one of the most effective tools for accelerating livestock development in modern agriculture.

Speaking on the milestone, Mr Muyiwa described the achievement as a transformative moment for Nigeria’s agricultural sector.

“This is more than the birth of a calf; it is the beginning of a new era in livestock production in Nigeria. We are proud to pioneer the introduction of the Nelore breed through advanced reproductive technology,” the farm stated.

Silagreen Genetics Nigeria also emphasized the importance of biotechnology in shaping the future of livestock farming in Africa, noting that premium embryo transfer services can help farmers achieve higher productivity, improved meat quality, and stronger herd genetics.

Stakeholders in the agricultural sector have praised the collaboration between Mirth Farms and Silagreen Genetics, describing it as a model for innovation, private-sector investment, and scientific advancement in Nigeria’s livestock industry.

The successful introduction of the Nelore breed is expected to open new opportunities for cattle breeders, commercial ranches, and livestock investors seeking sustainable and profitable solutions for beef production in Nigeria and across West Africa.

As Nigeria continues to strengthen its agricultural sector, the achievement by Mirth Farms and Silagreen Genetics Nigeria stands as a landmark success that highlights the power of innovation, partnership, and modern science in transforming the future of livestock farming.
