Sustainable Impact and Development (SID) Initiative, alongside Project Equal Care Champions under the AU-EU Youth Action Lab Project, paid an advocacy visit to the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA) at its office in Alausa Secretariat, Lagos.

The visit provided a strategic platform to strengthen partnerships, share critical insights, and deepen conversations around inclusion, accessibility, and equitable care for persons with disabilities across Lagos State.

A key highlight of the engagement was the participation of Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYWs) with disabilities who were trained under the project, reinforcing the importance of centering lived experiences in advocacy efforts.

The delegation also included policy influencers who serve as mentors to these AGYWs, creating a bridge between grassroots realities and policy-level action. This multi-stakeholder approach reflects the project’s commitment to inclusive, youth-driven advocacy.

During the meeting, the SID team, alongside trained AGYW with disabilities, presented a policy brief developed through the project, outlining key advocacy asks to improve access to healthcare, strengthen inclusive systems, and address barriers faced by persons with disabilities, particularly Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYWs).

The LASODA team, led by Omolola Sonubi, LASODA’s Director of Administration & Human Resources
received the delegation, expressed strong alignment with the recommendations, and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the realization of the advocacy goals.

Sonubi also committed to being a part of the engagement with other government stakeholders on SID’s advocacy ask towards a possible collaboration to subsidize health insurance for AGYWs with disabilities in Lagos State, marking a significant step towards advancing inclusive healthcare and social protection for vulnerable young women.

SID Initiative extends sincere appreciation to AU-EU for their invaluable support in making this engagement possible. Through the AU-EU Youth Action Lab Project, young people are empowered to lead meaningful change, amplify marginalized voices, and contribute to policy dialogues that drive sustainable impact.

SID Initiative is committed to advancing social development through youth-led advocacy, capacity building, and community-driven interventions that promote equity, inclusion, and sustainable change.
