Refuge Network International feeds over 1,000 in Lagos

Refuge Network International (RNI), also known as Refuge Charitable Network Nigeria (RCNN), has once again demonstrated its commitment to addressing social inequalities through its “Feed the Homeless” campaign.

The outreach, held across key locations in Lagos, provided over 1,000 homeless individuals with nutritious meals, including jollof rice and drinks.

The campaign spanned five major areas—Ikotun, Igando, Egbeda, Iyana Ipaja, and Agege—targeting vulnerable individuals living on the streets, under bridges, and in other undignified conditions. The initiative reached a diverse demographic, cutting across age, gender, and religion, reflecting the inclusivity central to RNI’s mission.

More than 30 volunteers worked tirelessly to ensure the efficient and orderly distribution of meals, taking proactive measures to prevent incidents such as stampedes. This effort shows RNI’s dedication to maintaining dignity and respect for the beneficiaries while addressing their immediate needs.

The “Feed the Homeless” campaign is the third major charitable initiative by RNI this year. Previous efforts include a street house-to-house outreach and an economic empowerment grant program targeting struggling business owners and the unemployed.

Despite the logistical and safety challenges associated with large-scale charitable events, RNI successfully executed the campaign using innovative strategies to reach the underserved population.

This initiative also shows RNI’s broader mission to alleviate poverty and promote access to essential needs such as food, healthcare, and education. According to RNI, the success of this campaign is not just in the number of meals distributed but in the smiles and gratitude of beneficiaries who experienced a rare moment of comfort and care.

Now in its fourth year of operation, RNI continues to expand its impact. Through its focus on Economic and Social Rights (ESR), the organisation aims to empower marginalised communities and combat human suffering.
