In 2025, the skincare and beauty industry in Nigeria is experiencing substantial growth, projected to reach a total market revenue of approximately US$10.17 billion.
This growth is driven by rising consumer awareness, a young and urbanizing population, and increasing demand for natural and locally sourced products.
Nigerian beauty entrepreneur Onyebuchi Okoye has launched a product line to tap into this market. The line, Ayirah Gold, officially debuted on Tuesday in Lagos, offering soaps, lotions, oils, and scrubs designed to improve skin health and boost confidence for African women.
From Personal Experience to a Brand
The launch took an emotional turn when Okoye shared the story behind Ayirah Gold. Years ago, a severe accident left his skin badly damaged. “A friend introduced me to a product that restored my confidence,” he told reporters. “That inspired me to create skincare that helps others rediscover their glow.”
Ayirah Gold products are formulated with vitamin C, kojic acid, arbutin, and a gold extract to brighten skin, reduce acne, fade dark spots, and enhance natural radiance. While most items are produced in Nigeria, their formulations are sourced internationally.
Skincare Solutions for Every Skin Tone
Brand consultant Adaobi Udeogu emphasised that Ayirah Gold is crafted for all African women. “We are not promoting one skin tone,” she said. “Beauty is about healthy, glowing skin and confidence, that is what we are delivering.”
Speaking further, Udeogu highlighted the brand’s focus on affordability and quality. “We want every woman to access skincare that feels luxurious but doesn’t break the bank. Affordable luxury is our core message,” she said.
She also explained the brand’s approach to product development, stating “Each product addresses a specific need. We carefully design formulations to solve real skin challenges, from dryness to uneven tone. Women can test and tell us what works best for them.”
On diversity in skincare, Udeogu added, “We are moving away from promoting fairness or one standard of beauty. Ayirah Gold celebrates all tones and empowers women to glow with confidence.”
The products are available online, on social media, and in select stores. “We want the buying experience to be easy, whether online or in your neighbourhood store,” Udeogu said.
Local Solutions for a Growing Market
Ayirah Gold meets Nigerian regulatory standards and reflects trends in the fast-growing local beauty market, including ethical sourcing, natural ingredients, and targeted formulations. For consumers, the benefits are a skincare made for African skin, promoting natural glow and self-confidence.
The launch signals a broader shift in Nigeria’s beauty industry, where local brands increasingly provide solutions that combine science, culture, and accessibility for a young and urban consumer base.
