Endeavor, the world’s leading community of high-impact entrepreneurs, has reiterated its dedication to nurturing entrepreneurship and fostering a collaborative ecosystem in Nigeria.
This was highlighted during a recent visit by Endeavor’s Global CEO, Linda Rottenberg, who visited Nigeria from July 6-9, 2024. The visit marked a series of successful events underscoring the country’s vibrant tech ecosystem and entrepreneurial spirit.
Founded in 1997, Endeavor’s mission is to unlock the transformational power of entrepreneurship by selecting, supporting, and investing in the world’s top founders. Today, Endeavor’s network spans 42 markets and supports more than 2,589 entrepreneurs leading 1,585 companies, generating combined revenues of over $42 billion and creating more than 3.9 million jobs.
Ireayomide Oladunjoye, Managing Director and CEO of Endeavor Nigeria, organized the visit to foster partnerships, promote digital innovation, and support the next generation of tech leaders. Linda Rottenberg’s itinerary included meetings with key figures in Nigeria’s tech sector, beginning with Olugbenga ‘GB’ Agboola, CEO of Flutterwave and Endeavor Nigeria board member, to discuss the fintech sector’s growth and its role within the entrepreneurial ecosystem.
In a statement by Joy Mabia, Marketing and Communications Manager at Endeavor Nigeria, Linda Rottenberg shared her insights on Endeavor’s mission, achievements, and future plans in the region during press interviews.
She said, “Nigeria’s tech ecosystem is a beacon of innovation and entrepreneurship. Endeavor is committed to supporting this growth and fostering a collaborative environment where entrepreneurs can thrive.”
A networking event followed, where Linda engaged with founders and pipeline entrepreneurs from Endeavor Nigeria’s portfolio companies, providing valuable insights and fostering engagement.
The second day began with a comprehensive presentation on the Nigerian digital ecosystem by Bolaji Balogun, Chairman of the Endeavor Nigeria Board and CEO of Chapel Hill Denham.
Also, Rottenberg and Bolaji Balogun virtually met with Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani, the Honorable Minister for Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy. Their discussions focused on the government’s role in supporting the tech ecosystem, creating jobs, and fostering an environment that enables businesses to thrive. They also discussed proposed collaboration on the 3MTT program, aimed at training three million people in tech skills, underscoring the commitment to nurturing local talent and driving digital skills development.
The day concluded with an event dedicated to female founders and executives in Nigeria, emphasizing the importance of diversity and inclusion in the tech industry.
Speaking in a fireside chat at the event, Linda said, “Despite female-led companies in Africa attracting less than 5% of venture capital, the future must include equal access to capital, resources, and leadership opportunities for women.” Sponsored by SME.NG and Alitheia Capital, this event highlighted the need to amplify women at every stage of their journey to ensure a vibrant and inclusive ecosystem.
