The Social Democratic Party has formally submitted the name of Adewole Adebayo, its presidential candidate, to the Independent National Electoral Commission ahead of the 2027 general election.

In a letter addressed to the electoral commission following the party’s national convention and presidential primary held in Bauchi on May 9, 2026, the party,through its party’s secretary, Dr. Olu Agunloye, said it was officially forwarding the details of its elected presidential flag bearer for the 2027 presidential poll.

The SDP stated that the convention and direct primary election were conducted peacefully and successfully at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium, Bauchi, where Adebayo emerged as the sole aspirant and secured majority support from delegates and party members.

According to the letter, titled “Submission of the Name and Other Details of SDP Presidential Candidate,” the party informed INEC that “the presidential candidate nominated by the Social Democratic Party for sponsorship in the 2027 presidential election is Prince Adewole Ebenezer Adebayo.”

The party also confirmed that Adebayo would contest for the office of President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria under the SDP platform.

The correspondence further requested the commission to provide the necessary nomination documents, including Forms EC9, EC9A, EC9B, EC9C, EC9D and EC9E, for the formal completion of the candidate nomination process.
Adebayo, who was the SDP presidential candidate in the 2023 election, was returned unopposed at the party’s convention in Bauchi after emerging as the sole aspirant for the ticket.
