Accion Micro Finance Bank has partnered with JAKIN, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), to meet the educational needs and improve the living standard of the less privileged and orphanage children, by putting smiles on their faces in the 2016 edition of the “dress a child for school project”.
Consequently, the partnership resulted in the presentation of school materials to 500 children from public, primary and secondary schools across several local governments within Lagos state.
The event with the theme ‘Education for the 21st century in Nigeria’ was organised by JAKIN to commemorate the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) declared International Literacy Day, as UNESCO celebrates it under the banner “Reading the Past, Writing the Future”.
According to Bunmi Lawson, managing director of Accion MfB: “At Accion Microfinance Bank, we believe our future is bright and we will continue to aid the effort of every well-meaning organisation to ensure a brighter future for the Nigerian child, while motivating every Nigerian child to be the best they can be towards giving themselves a brighter future regardless of their humble beginnings.”
She said further “we are not just pushing the frontiers of financial inclusion, we are also supporting causes that promote human dignity and indeed improve livelihood, so this partnership is triggered by this shared passion for the bottom of the pyramid population.
Bukky Adebiyi, president of JAKIN NGO expressed appreciation to Accion MfB for their commitment towards helping children. She said, “we sincerely appreciate Accion for believing in us and hereby partnering with us to see to it that these children are taken off the street and are provided with school materials in order that they will not be a waste and future threat to the society.”
“JAKIN NGO is a non governmental organisation that seeks to improve the society by creating a neutral and conducive atmosphere for resources to be generated for charity for the less privileged, as the needy and less privileged freely discuss their issues and also receive various forms of financial, psychosocial, material, academic and medical supports that tackle their situations from its root cause,” Bukky Adebiyi said.
According to Deji Alonge, head marketing communications Accion Microfinance Bank Limited, “this is an opportunity to break the dynasty of poverty in our community. Education is seen as a leveller and that is why we have partnered with JAKINS so as to push education forward. We are committed to enriching the lives of young Nigerians through education-focused corporate citizen initiatives and has continued to demonstrate this in a variety of projects, which include the presentation of educational material to various schools.
