Babagana Zulum, the governor of Borno State, has urged the establishment of a regional office of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) in Maiduguri to strengthen aviation regulation and enhance operational efficiency in the North-East region.

Zulum visited the headquarters of NCAA in Abuja on Tuesday to fast-track the final certification of Muhammadu Buhari Airport for International operations.

The meeting was held behind closed doors and focused on deliberations to remove technical bottlenecks and secure the aerodrome license required for international flight operations.

BusinessDay had earlier reported that President Bola Tinubu has approved the upgrade of Maiduguri airport to international status, completing the establishment of international airports across all six geo-political zones of the country. Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, made this public yesterday via his verified X handle, @SundayDareSD.

The move was expected to boost economic activities and enhance regional connectivity in the North-east.

With the upgrade, Maiduguri airport joined the ranks of international airports in Nigeria, improving access for travellers and facilitating trade and investment in the region.
