Professor Johnbull counsels parents on career choice for children

Professor Johnbull counsels parents on career choice for children

The role of parents and guardians in their children and wards’ choice of career was the focus of the week’s episode of Glo-sponsored TV Drama Series, Professor Johnbull, which comes up at 8.30 pm on Tuesday on NTA Network, NTA International on DSTV Channel 251 and NTA on StarTimes.

In the programme, Professor Johnbull (Kanayo O. Kanayo) advises parents and guardians on what to do to help their children and wards to choose their career. The episode, titled Career Choices, enjoins parents to take into cognisance the passion and talents of their children before deciding on their choice of career.

This can be seen in the social satire where the erudite Professor intervenes when Old Captain tries to impose a footballing career on his son, Chukwuilodibe whose ambition is to become a biology teacher. According to Professor Johnbull, a professional’s career fulfilment and satisfaction determine the success of any career and not the amount of money made.

Career choices show that parents opt for particular carriers because some people had succeeded in such fields in the past. Professor Johnbull, however, disagrees with this notion, saying that “there are unsuccessful footballers, unsuccessful pilots and unsuccessful medical doctors”. According to him, parents should use education and counselling to expose their c hildren to a wide range of opportunities and subsequently allow them to pursue careers that they are passionate about.

Others are Olaniyi (Yomi Fash-Lanso), Mai Doya (Funky Mallam), Etuk (Imeh Bishop) and Elizabeth (Queen Nwokoye), Professor Johnbull’s daughter who agrees with his dad that parents should not impose careers on their children based on their background. Career Choices will be aired again at 8.30 p.m. on Friday on the same channels.
