For a country like ours, one may wonder what exactly can bring about national development? Truly, there are different factors that could contribute to national development but a prominent factor is education. What exactly can a nation achieve with an uneducated populace? This article seeks to identify the importance of education and how it contributes directly or indirectly to national development.

Firstly, one of the major aims of education is to develop informed individuals in different skill in the same manner, it trains individuals and produces skilled professionals. An increase in skilled professionals definitely assures an increase in the work force of the country. This directly affects a higher level of national development.

Secondly, education reduces the crime rate in a nation. Educated people through their gained knowledge engage in lucrative jobs. Once majority of the populace is educated, they more or less are inclined in different skills and this drastically reduces people’s involvement in crime. This is so because they have been educated on the right and legal way of earning a living, so they are repugnant to engage in crime and this aids the national development. Furthermore, when there are educated people and job opportunities are available for them; it increases the productive capacities of firms which will in turn yield a high national income and gross domestic product (GDP). In fact, industries and already existing firms always seek well educated and experienced people as their workers. Education thus enhances these firms to get adequate labour that will enable them to thrive well and increase the productive capacity of both the firm and the country which influences national development.

As said before, education produces skilled professionals. These professionals are able to improve the sector in which they are inclined for example, after training to be a doctor, the individual becomes pushes further and becomes a renowned medical surgeon who is then able to improve the medical sector of the country by training other people. Even after attending universities and getting degrees, people go further to attain their Masters and doctorate degree (PhD) through series of courses and training, the individual becomes specialized in his/her area of study and is able to improve that sector of the country which contributes to national development.
