Mercy Eke, Mr. Macaroni, Father DMW to star in Trips, Ogelle flagship series

Winner of the Big Brother Naija season 4, Mercy Eke, is billed to star in Trips, an Ogelle flagship series, alongside Mr Macaroni and Father DMW.

Trips is a web series about the lives and experiences of three e-taxi drivers in Lagos, Nigeria bustling commercial hub.

The story centres around Chidiebere (played by Mercy), a female driver with a myriad of cash woes, Sikiru (played by Mr Macaroni), a married cab driver who is a chronic womaniser, and Baba Go Slow (played by Father DMW), a highly obnoxious fellow.

The series chronicles the activities of these drivers and their unscrupulous passengers.

Trips, which will be directed by Otu Njama and produced by Osita Oparaugo exclusively for Ogelle, features nearly 30 other cast and notable appearances from stars like Segun Arinze and Bryan Okwara.

Mercy, who received the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Award for Best Dressed Female on March 14, 2020, says she is excited about the film project.

“I am excited to start a new journey in my life and one that I take very seriously and it will manifest in my performance. I have read the script twice and it’s very engaging and daring. Just watch me win!” she said.

Osita Oparaugo, lawyer, filmmaker and founder of Ogelle, said he was looking forward to working with these talented Nigerians on the film project.

Oparaugo said that e-taxi or car hailing has become part of everyday lives and has its own story that needs to be told, noting that this series will do just that.

“We have the right team, men and women committed to creating indigenous and diverse content that speaks to culture and we all agree that this is the story that must be told well,” he said.

Speaking on Ogelle, Oparaugo said it is an online video-sharing resource and entertainment platform for African content only; a user-generated content (UGC) and subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) platform with pan-African coverage in terms of diversity of content themes, content creation and representation in languages.

“Ogelle is a platform that enables every African in African and or in the Diaspora to create, post, and share Africa-focused video content and monetize the same by views no matter their country of origin, cultural heritage or language,” the Ogelle founder said.

For established filmmakers and studios, he said Ogelle offers an avenue to generate revenue from completed projects and commissioning of new projects.

“We believe that Ogelle will help every African find communities of support, create and share videos around shared beliefs, cultural values, and interests while helping those in the diaspora connect to their roots as well as providing a true African story for global lovers of African content,” he said.
