How Paramount Sports is addressing Nigeria’s fitness challenges

The gym and training market in Nigeria is expected to generate $181.8 million in revenue by 2025, with an annual growth rate of 3.42% between 2025 and 2029.

Despite this growth, challenges remain in the fitness industry, including limited research, a shortage of affordable fitness options, and the absence of national policies promoting physical activity.

Izuchukwu Benneth Azike founder of Paramount Sports Ltd emphasised the importance of affordability in expanding access to fitness. “Many Nigerians find it difficult to access decent, affordable fitness centres. By providing high-quality equipment and online access, we are empowering people to embrace active lifestyles without financial strain,” he said.

Paramount Sports Ltd, founded in 2018, aims to bridge these gaps by making fitness equipment more accessible and affordable. Through partnerships with leading manufacturers, the company ensures the availability of fitness products such as treadmills, dumbbells, snooker boards, and sportswear nationwide.

Nigeria’s low physical activity levels highlight the need for multi-sectoral efforts to improve public health. While unorganised fitness centres offer affordability, they often lack quality and sustainability. Paramount Sports provides reliable and cost-effective alternatives for both fitness centres and individuals.

Azike acknowledged the need for greater collaboration and research in the industry. “We must improve surveillance and policy around physical activity in Nigeria. This is why we partner with research-driven manufacturers and advocate for national fitness programmes,” he added.

As a sponsor of the 2024 Nigerian Sports National Merit Award, Paramount Sports is promoting fitness at a grassroots level. The company has also donated sports equipment to schools to encourage physical activity among young Nigerians.

Looking forward, Paramount Sports aims to expand its reach and encourage more Nigerians to stay active. “The future of fitness in Nigeria is bright, and we are proud to be part of the solution,” Azike said.
