Amaechi doles out N100m grant to project-conscious LGA

 Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has doled out N100 million to Ogu/Bolo Local Council Authority for showing great zeal on executing projects.

The governor has been angry that since he took away the burden of paying primary school teachers since 2008, amounting to about N2 billion per month, the councils did not encourage him by executing many projects. They rather seemed to relax to enjoy their tenures since their major headache had been removed.

Amaechi has, however, given a grant and a pat on the back on Ogu/Bolo to augment steps taken by the council on developmental projects, including the linking of Bolo town to the national grid to boost social and economic activities in the area.

Amaechi spoke at a Town Hall meeting with the people of Ogu/Bolo at Ogu, the headquarters of Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area of the state.

He said: “The cardinal projects in my administration are education, health, road and power. Your chairman has done well in the area of power. We will support her with a N100 million grant, because the Ogu/Bolo council has taken the rural electrification project which is also our priority project in the area of power”.

Governor Amaechi also said it was necessary and strategically important for his administration to commence the building of a Model Secondary School in the area by June 2013, while urging the people of Ogu/Bolo to provide 21 hectares of land for the school.

According to him, “It is your entitlement, we hold the money for Rivers people and before June this year, we will bring out the money and mobilise contractors to site. I also want the commissioner for education to bring me the survey plan to ensure we have 21 hectares of land, this is government project, so ignore who owns the land. Let us get 21 hectares of land. This is because, it is not only Ogu/Bolo people that will go to school there, it is the entire Rivers State”.

He equally assured the people of Ogu/Bolo that his administration would build more health centres in Ogu, Wakama, Bolo and Ele communities.

Amaechi told the people of Ogu/Bolo that his administration had completed the road project linking Ogu main town, the Bolo road and bridge project. Following a demand by the people, the governor promised to build a police station in the area.
