President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the allocation of billions of naira for the expansion of 12 River Basin projects across Nigeria, intending to address hunger, improving food security, and enhancing agricultural development nationwide.
Musa Illiyasu Kwankwaso, the Director of Finance at the Hadejia Jama’are River Basin, made the announcement Saturday in Kano State.
He further emphasised on President Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to the development of Northern Nigeria through agriculture.
Kwankwaso highlighted that the expansion of these River Basins will significantly increase food production, alleviate hunger, and strengthen Nigeria’s agricultural output.
He also commended Hon. Abubakar Kabir Abubakar Bichi, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriation, for ensuring the approval of the necessary budget to revitalize the River Basin projects.

Kwankwaso praised Bichi’s dedication, noting that his efforts align with President Tinubu’s vision for national development, particularly ahead of the 2027 elections.
The revitalisation of over 12 dams for irrigation farming, according to Kwankwaso, is a critical part of the government’s efforts to strengthen food security and make Nigeria self-sufficient in food production.
Kwankwaso extended heartfelt gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his visionary leadership, praising his focus on food security, infrastructure, and economic recovery, as evidenced by the 2025 budget.
He also lauded Hon. Bichi for his significant role in securing developmental projects for Kano and other regions, expressing optimism about the long-term impact these initiatives will have on the people and the nation’s economy.
