Pep Guardiola’s side, keen to bounce back after a disappointing domestic and Champions League campaign, dominated large spells of the match.

However, Rico Lewis was shown a straight red card in the closing minutes for a dangerous challenge, marring an otherwise solid performance.

Guardiola used the match to rotate and experiment, handing debuts to new signings Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki. Teenage defender Vitor Reis also made only his third start for the club since joining in January.

City now turn their attention to upcoming Group G clashes against Al Ain of the UAE and Italian giants Juventus.
