Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has donated N31 million to the 22 bereaved families of athletes and officials from Kano State who tragically lost their lives while returning from the just-concluded National Sports Festival (NSF), tagged Gateway 2024, held in Ogun State.
The delegation was led by Ogun State Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele.
In an emotional address, Salako-Oyedele conveyed Governor Abiodun’s deep sorrow over the incident.

“Though His Excellency is currently on Hajj, we felt compelled to be here in person to express our condolences and solidarity with the people and government of Kano. This is a devastating loss — not only for Kano but for the Nigerian sports community.”
“We pray for the speedy recovery of those who are hospitalised and commend the quick response of the police, FRSC, and emergency personnel. May Allah accept the deceased into Aljanat Firdaus, forgive their shortcomings, and grant their families the strength to bear this painful loss.”
In response, Kano State Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdusalam Gwarzo, expressed deep appreciation for the condolence visit and financial support.
He confirmed that Governor Abiodun had personally reached out on Saturday to offer his condolences.
“We are truly grateful for this gesture. It reflects Governor Abiodun’s compassion and solidarity during this dark period,” Gwarzo said.
