The State and Federal governments have been called upon to intervene by providing affordable housing for low-income earners not only to help check the excess of shylock landlords, but also to bridge the increasing housing deficit in the country.

Johnson Ajikan, the newly elected National President of the Estate, Rent Commission Agent Association of Nigeria (ERCAAN), made the call on Thursday in Akure, the Ondo State capital, during the election of the association tagged “Unification Election”.

BusinessDay reports that delegates across the states where ERCAAN exists, with elders and members of the Board of Trustees, were also in attendance during the election.

The new national officers to run the affairs of the association for the next four years include; Iyke Desmond Oguama of Lagos Branch emerged as the National Vice-President, Adigun Ismail Abiola from Oyo state was elected as the National Secretary.

Also, Lukeman Salawu from Lagos emerged as National Assistant Secretary of the association and Abikanlu Joshua Gbenga from Ondo state as National Treasurer.

Other officers elected were Buhari Abiodun Oladipupo from Osun State as National Auditor while Ilesanmi Ayodele Ishola and Timilehin Joshua, both from Ekiti State  clinched the positions of National Organizing Secretary and National Assistant Financial Secretary respectively.

The position of National Coordinator was won unopposed by Idowu Oni from the Oyo state branch as compensation for his selfless service to the association nationwide.

Ajikan, in his acceptance speech, therefore, charged members of the association across the country to join hands with him to reposition the association for greatness.

He, also, promised to expand the scope of the association beyond the existing branches and get a befitting national Secretariat for the association.
