Olakunle Oluomo, the speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, has been impeached from office. The assembly immediately elected Oludaisi Elemide as the new speaker.

Oluomo was removed during the house plenary session on Tuesday. 18 of the 36 members of the assembly voted in favour of Oluomo’s impeachment.

Oluomo was impeached on charges of embezzlement, haughtiness, and other offences. He is a third-term lawmaker representing Ifo State Constituency II.

Elemide, Oluomo’s successor, is also third-term lawmaker representing Odeda State constituency.
