Onyebuchi Chukwu Nigeria’s Minister of Health has said the nation may be free of Ebola within a week as the number of people being treated for the virus dropped to two. “It will be a matter of maybe one week’s time because we have only two cases now of Ebola virus disease and both of them are in an isolation ward,” Chukwu said in an interview yesterday with Bloomberg Television’s Trish Regan and Shannon Pettypiece. “They are not exposed to the public and the public is in no danger from the two.”
Nigeria’s Health Ministry said yesterday a senior doctor who was treating an Ebola patient died from the disease, the fifth since a Liberian-American last month brought the virus to Africa’s most populous nation of about 170 million people. The country has enough equipment to contain the outbreak, Chukwu said.
