Benue state governor Gabriel Suswam said the state has mounted surveillance to contain Ebola disease if the need arises.

Suswam who disclosed this to journalists in Makurdi the Benue state capital noted that a team of experts led by Commissioner for Health and Human Services has already gone to bring kits for handling of Ebola patients.

“The Minister of Health requested states to take certain measures to prevent outbreak and we have already done that. So by any chance if we have an incident we can handle it without infecting those who handle the disease” He said.

The governor further said government has already started educating the people of the state on precautionary measures concerning the disease and has put in place machinery to handle cases if there is any outbreak.

Suswam who warned the people not to create fertile ground for the spread of the disease advised them not to avoid burials noting that based on information available to him, the disease transmits only through personal contact.

“I do not think it is something that people should be very apprehensive of because I have just been told that it is not something you will just contract unless you have personal contact with infected person”, Suswam stated.
