Goerge Eze, Enugu state commissioner for health, said that health workers in the state have been adequately trained and equipped to respond promptly in case of any report of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in the state. While noting that measures have been put on ground to guard against the deadly contagious disease, it was imptarnt to make serious preparation against any possible outbreak.
Disclosing this during briefing at the State Ministry of Health said although no case of the deadly contagious disease has been recorded in the state, the briefing became necessary as the ministry had been inundated with questions from the people of the state on the deadly disaese.
According to Eze, “Up till now, we have not established any Ebola case in Enugu State, for now it is a threat across the country but we are guarding against it. We want to let you know that we have the manpower, the muscle, and our specialists have put heads together to manage the situation”.
“The Governor, Sullivan Chime, has reiterated the need for a healthy state. That is why he has empowered the ministry down the line. So, we are calling on our people not to panic but take the necessary precautions. Our best is to prepare ourselves to tackle this scourge if it comes.
“For any scourge that occurred in the past, it was contained. So, we believe that this one will be contained. We have earlier started sensitization in the media but we feel that it is not enough; we are coming with bombardment that will not create panic among the members of the public,” he disclosed..
