Lafarge Cement WAPCO Nigeria Plc has allayed fears among Nigerians that its cement products are injurious to human health and environment, saying the cement company is conscious and compliant with international environment standard in cement production, storage and distribution.

Speaking on impacts of healthy living in nation building at the end of Lafarge Cement WAPCO Health and Safety Month at Ewekoro Cement Plant II on Wednesday, Joe Hudson, managing director, Lafarge Cement WAPCO, declared that safety and healthy living of Nigerians, including its members of staff, host communities and users of Lafarge cement products are of top most priority.

Hudson said that the company would spend a lot of energy and resources to ensure that it complies with international codes on environment
and healthy living among Nigerians, especially among its members of staff, host communities and users of its cement products, adding that Nigerians should also change their culture on environment for healthy living.

The managing director stated that health and safety measures introduced and implemented by the company is not restricted to the company
environment, adding that all host communities where Lafarge operates are not left out in the health and safety programme. He explained that the company has installed modern machines that prevent industrial and environmental pollution.

While commenting on health and safety as priority and value for Lafarge Cement WAPCO, Hudson boasted that Elephant Cement products are most environment-friendly products in Nigeria going by their less than 30% Co2 emission capacity, which, he said, “is the standard in the world,” adding that the best environment practice “is a top priority for us, it’s part of our value as a company.”

Also speaking, Emeka Wogu, the minister of labour and productivity, disclosed that Lafarge Cement WAPCO Nigeria Plc has been rated as the best in health and safety as well as sound environmental practice, saying investigations carried out on Lafarge Cement WAPCO plants and products showed that the giant cement producer is the best in the country.
